Alion Energy was founded in 2008 in the Bay Area as SunPrint — a bet on large-format printed thin-film modules. Crystal silicon won that race. What did not die with the print line was the other work: extruded and slipformed concrete as a foundation, an A-frame that does not live on a torque tube, and a patent file built around how the plant meets the ground. Those very large SunPrint modules forced the early thinking: a tracker that could carry heavier panel mass and the wind load that comes with it.
The company is a deeply experienced team from energy and materials — people who have watched corrosive soils eat driven piles, and who designed for a fifty-year plant that does not gallop, does not flutter, and has no torque tube to take a permanent set in snow. Today we develop and supply that tracker to sites the pile chart calls a no — cobble, clay, rock, water, brownfield — so the arable acre can stay in food.
